Jill M. Shea is a member of the Firm’s Real Estate and Banking Practice Group, in which she advises real estate investors and developers on a broad range of issues relating to real estate transactions, both commercial and residential.  She is highly skilled in negotiating and drafting real estate contracts, including purchase and sale agreements and commercial leases, land title review and analysis, and conducting commercial and residential settlements.  In addition, Ms. Shea has an extensive background in secured financing of real estate acquisitions, representing purchasers in obtaining project financing, as well as banking institutions and lenders in the enforcement of security instruments.  She represents parties in all stages of real estate transactions, from initial land acquisition considerations, contract term negotiations, feasibility and due diligence obligations, financing consultation and negotiation, resolving issues of title, to final settlement of a transaction.

As part of her practice, Ms. Shea also represents clients with estate planning and estate administration matters, including probate.  She is well versed in estate and tax planning vehicles available to individuals seeking to protect wealth and plan for its disposition, including available options for charitable giving.  Ms. Shea also represents fiduciaries in all aspects of the administration of trusts, estates, and guardianships, such as probate accountings, settlement of creditor’s claims, and Federal and Maryland Estate Tax reporting and payment obligations.  She regularly practices before the Orphans’ Courts and Registers of Wills for Prince George’s, Montgomery and Anne Arundel Counties.

Ms. Shea received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of Law, where she served as Articles Editor of the Journal of Health Care Law and Policy.  During law school Ms. Shea also participated in “Legal Theory and Practice, Real Property,” a clinical program focused on the investigation of fraudulent real estate and predatory lending practices in the Baltimore area.  She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Boston College.  Ms. Shea’s strong liberal arts background has endowed her with a keen analytical eye for statutory and contract interpretation, as well as exceptional writing skills, making her a highly capable legal draftswoman.

Ms. Shea is actively involved in a number of professional organizations, including the Maryland State Bar Association, the Prince George’s County Bar Association, and the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland, Montgomery County Chapter.  She has also been a member and active participant in the Maryland Land Title Association for a number of years.  Ms. Shea is admitted to practice in Maryland, and before the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.
