Jill M. Shea is a member of the Firm’s Real Estate and Banking Practice Group, in which she advises real estate investors and developers on a broad range of issues relating to real estate transactions, both commercial and residential. She is highly skilled in negotiating and drafting real estate contracts, including purchase and sale agreements and commercial leases, land title review and analysis, and conducting commercial and residential settlements. In addition, Ms. Shea has an extensive background in secured financing of real estate acquisitions, representing purchasers in obtaining project financing, as well as banking institutions and lenders in the enforcement of security instruments. She represents parties in all stages of real estate transactions, from initial land acquisition considerations, contract term negotiations, feasibility and due diligence obligations, financing consultation and negotiation, resolving issues of title, to final settlement of a transaction.
As part
of her practice, Ms. Shea also represents clients with estate planning and
estate administration matters, including probate.
She is well versed in estate and tax planning vehicles available to
individuals seeking to protect wealth and plan for its disposition,
including available options for charitable giving.
Ms. Shea also represents fiduciaries in all aspects of the
administration of trusts, estates, and guardianships, such as probate
accountings, settlement of creditor’s claims, and Federal and Maryland
Estate Tax reporting and payment obligations.
She regularly practices before the Orphans’ Courts and Registers of
Wills for
Ms. Shea
received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of
Law, where she served as Articles Editor of the
Journal of Health Care Law and Policy.
During law school Ms. Shea also participated in “Legal Theory and
Practice, Real Property,” a clinical program focused on the investigation of
fraudulent real estate and predatory lending practices in the
Ms. Shea is actively involved in a
